As we slowly drove down the street on that cold December evening we spotted the porch light. "This must be the house." I told our "Positive Teens In Action" group. We pulled up in front of an older home with the porch light glowing. We gathered up our song books, walked up the steps, and knocked on the door. We heard a faint voice from inside say, “Come on in. The door is open." We opened the door.

There in a rocking chair sat an elderly woman with a big smile on her face. "I've been expecting you." she said weakly. Ruth was one of our Meals On Wheels stops I had arranged; along with the usual church members who enjoyed carolers. We handed Ruth the basket of goodies the teens had assembled earlier that evening. Then I asked Ruth what carols she would like to hear. Ruth's face was beaming as she joined in singing each song.

As we hugged Ruth good-bye she said to me with tears glistening in her eyes, “The day you called I was still in bed. I had just finished praying. I asked God if it would be possible to have some Christmas Carolers come to my home and sing this year. Thank you for being the answer to my Christmas prayer."

Wow, what an awesome experience to have the opportunity to be the answer to someone's Christmas prayer.

It was a beautiful, sunny, Spring day. I had just finished driving my daughter to the airport to catch an early morning flight.

My sons and I then went to a fast food place for breakfast before heading back home.

After eating we all got into the car and pulled out of the parking lot.

The restaurant was at the very top of a hill. At the bottom of the hill was a stop sign so we found ourselves at the end of a long line of traffic waiting while the cars at the bottom turned onto the main road one at a time.

As I looked down to the bottom of the hill my eyes saw an elderly man standing by the stop sign.

His clothes were old and worn. He held a cardboard sign with the words: Need Help Please! written on it.

My heart went out to him and I imagined myself in his situation.

As car after car turned onto the road without stopping for him, I reached for my wallet to look for whatever cash was left in it.

As I was pulling it out of my pocket, though, I saw a young woman walk up to him along the side of the road.

She was carrying a bag full of take out food from the restaurant I was just at. I watched as the old man thanked the young girl and smiled as she reached in to give him a hug.

Suddenly a loud HONK! from the car behind me made me realize that I hadn"t been moving forward, because this simple choice for kindness had so captured my attention and my heart.

By the time I reached the bottom of the hill both the man and lady who had helped him were gone. Yet, as I drove home the sun seemed to shine even brighter and Heaven felt a bit closer to Earth.

A choice is such a powerful thing. It can touch a heart and change a life. It can bring us closer to God and make Heaven smile. Each day we are given a thousand choices. May you make all of yours for kindness. May you make your whole life a choice for love, joy, and God.

I Paid For A Young Woman's Groceries

I was in line at Trader Joe's and the young woman in front of me had her card declined, she embarrassedly handed the cashier another card, which was also declined and then a final card that was approved for just $5.47.

She asked the cashier to cancel the transaction. The cashier motions for manager. I smile and offer to pay the balance, which was $20 something dollars.

The woman was very thankful, the cashier was happy.

On my way out the manager handed me a bouquet of mixed flowers. He didn't say anything, just held the flowers out to me.

I saw he was overcomed with emotion. I suspected that if he opened his mouth he would start to cry. I accepted the flowers with thanks and walked out feeling that, for just a few moments, the world had become a better place.

I have a Rewards Card for Showcase Cinema that allows me to earn rewards points with each purchase that I make at the theatre and periodically provides me with a free popcorn, soda or movie ticket coupon. I had recently accumulated enough rewards points to obtain a coupon for a free popcorn.

Standing in the movie theatre ticket line on Saturday, I noticed just ahead of me, a father with his 2 small boys also waiting to buy their tickets for the Matinee Movie. Knowing that movies can be quite expensive for families nowadays, I tapped the Dad on the shoulder and asked, ‘I have a coupon for free popcorn and don’t plan to use it, would you like it for one of your boys?’ He said, ‘Yeah, sure. That’s great! Thanks!’ and took the coupon.

A few minutes later, after they had purchased their tickets, one of his small sons who appeared to be about 9 or 10 years old, walked up to me and silently held out a shiny penny to show me. I took it and said, ‘Wow that’s cool! It’s really shiny!’ He quietly replied, ‘It’s a 2011’。 As I handed it back to him. He pushed the penny towards me once again and quietly said, ‘You can keep it’。 Showing my gratitude, I replied, ‘Wow that’s awesome, thank you very much” and asked, ‘Where did you get it!’ and he said quite softly, ‘I found it in my Dad’s car’。 I said, ‘Oh that’s cool, thanks! He smiled, quietly turned and walked back to his Dad who returned my smile with a knowing smile of his own. It’s the small special moments like that that can make an ordinary day, special.

Change is considerably easier when you have a full complement of supporting partners and unlimited resources. But, since very often it is the shock of a death, divorce or some other life tragedy that unceremoniously tosses us out of our comfort zone to fend for ourselves, it can mean being forced to strike out alone which for many of us is the scariest part of all.

Probably the most difficult thing about pursuing significant change is doing it when you don’t have the knowledge, financial or emotional tools available to make the process go smoothly.

However, as difficult as it can be, sometimes reaching our full potential means working without a net. Or, as Tony Robbins says, "If you want to take the island, burn the f’ing boats!"

For those truly dedicated to their mission, having fewer resources and no backup or fallback plan can be a surprising blessing as it forces you to get creative and forge new paths.

I don’t know if it’s possible to leave this world with zero regrets. Because of the natural life cycles and the fact that sometimes it’s the tragedy that causes our awakenings we often have our epiphanies too late to avoid certain painful outcomes.

However, it is indefensible to can claim ignorance to the possible ramifications of continued inaction. The choice belongs to each and every one of us. We all have the power to change both our thoughts and behavior thereby giving more intentional direction to the remainder of our lives.

Do you often(like to) listen to music?

1.When

(1)When do you listen to music?

(2)How much time do you spend listening to music every day?

2.What

(1)What kinds of music do you like to listen to?

(2)What's your favorite kind of music?

列举常见的音乐类型:Classical music(古典音乐)、Pop music(流行)、Blues(蓝调)、Rock & Roll(摇滚)、Jazz(爵士)、Rap(说唱)、folk(民歌)

(3)What kinds of music are (most) popular in China?

3.Details

(1)Have you ever been to a musical performance/concert?

(2)Have you ever learned to play a musical instrument?

列举常见的乐器:Piano(钢琴)、Accordion(手风琴)、Violin(小提琴)、Viola(中提琴)、Cello(大提琴)、harp(竖琴)、Chinese lute(琵琶)、guitar(吉他)、harmonica(口琴)、accordion(手风琴)、saxophone(萨克斯)。.。

4.Special

1.Talk about the athletes!

-Are you a fan of Ning’s?

-You bet. I never seen anyone so gifted like him. He’s a natural.

-I agree. But the other young swimmer did a great job. Might be a dark horse.

-Well, he sure is something. But I’m afraid there’s a lot to catch up if he want to compete with Ning.

Tips:

I’m a big fan of soccer.

2)you bet

-Hey! Did you see the game last night?

-You bet I did! It’s such a great one.

6)catch up有赶上,追上的意思,如果有人说you have a lot to catch up就是说你还差得远呢。

2.Talk about the game!

-What’s happening? Is the American team taking the lead?

-Sadly, yes. I can’t believe we just lost a score like that.

-Oh, wait. Shoot, and…goal! One for China!

-Yeah, now it’s 2-2, the game is about to be over, looks like it’s gonna end up a tie.

-Don’t say that yet… We are doing so well, might take this one down. A last-gasp goal will be perfect.

Tips:

1)take the lead

2)a score就是一球,一分的意思,lost a score就是失了一分。

3)goal

4)one for somebody

I’m gonna take you down就可以理解为……

3.Cheering!

root for someone 支持某人

be on someone’s side
